Dentistry

Your horse's dental health is an essential building block of their well-being. Due to the horse's unique dental anatomy, chronic and painful conditions may be overlooked unless a thorough dental exam is completed annually.

Dr. Ruemmler is happy to provide routine dental care ("floating") for horses in her practice. All "floats" begin with a brief physical and then a comprehensive dental examination. Dental examinations are performed with mild standing sedation as well as a full-mouth speculum and headlamp which facilitates a complete visual and tactile examination of the mouth.

Dental "equilibration"/"floating" is performed with a customized powerfloat that allows Dr. Ruemmler to access all areas of the horse's mouth without damaging soft tissues. If additional abnormalities are noted, further diagnostics (such as dental x-rays) can be performed. Dr. Ruemmler is proud to have an excellent working relationship with Dr. Leah Limone of Northeast Equine Veterinary Dental Services. Dr. Limone's practice is devoted exclusively to advanced equine veterinary dentistry. She is available to Dr. Ruemmler for consultation and referral of advanced cases.
