Meet Our Team!
Dr. Becky Ruemmler - Practice Owner
Dr. Becky (as she is known to her clients and friends) has been providing health care to horses in New England since 2007. A 2006 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, she gained invaluable experience with colic surgeries, sick foals, and other emergencies working nights at the veterinary school's equine clinic during her 2nd and 3rd years in veterinary school. She was then asked to stay on as the 2006-2007 Equine Medicine and Surgery intern at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital. After graduation she accepted a position at Boston Equine Associates where she worked from 2007 until 2017 allowing her to gain experience in all facets of equine veterinary medicine.
Dr. Becky's obsession with all things equine has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember (Yes, she was that little girl galloping around on the playground pretending to be a horse)! She began riding as a youngster and has dabbled in many equestrian sports including endurance, cross-country, saddleseat, and has even sat on a reiner! She currently (occasionally) competes at the local level in the hunters/equitation with her Oldenburg gelding, Scooby! She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Steven Medeiros, who is also a farrier, as well as gardening and baking!
Kayla Waskiewicz - PRactice Manager
Kayla joined Commonwealth Equine in the summer of 2019. She has been chasing her equine obsession since she was six years old and just can't get enough, "horse"! Kayla graduated with a Bachelors degree in Anthropology/Sociology and Biology in 2010, with the aspiration to combine her equine infatuation with the vast and fascinating culture of the horse industry. Kayla has worked in an array of equine related atmospheres over the years, always striving to learn something new from each unique experience. She is thrilled to be part of the CWE Team and continue to promote quality care for our beloved horses. When she isn't on a horse chasing her eventing and horsemanship dreams, Kayla enjoys hanging with her canine companion, exploring the countryside, fishing, snowboarding or simply spending time at home with her husband and family.
Jake Davis - Veterinary Assistant
Jake’s equine origins start on the polo field in Newport, RI. After a stint as a farrier apprentice, he joined the team at Commonwealth Equine in the spring of 2021. He has learned the ropes quickly and is now an indispensable asset to the practice. He has a special ability to put even the most nervous horses at ease. When not wrangling foals at work you can find him on his motorcycle or shredding it on his guitar at a live show locally!
Katie Christ - Veterinary Assistant
Katie brings a deep background of equine knowledge from many years on and off the polo field. We were excited to welcome her to the team in February of 2022. Her attention to detail, interest in learning about cases, and positive vibes have made her an amazing addition! Fun fact: Katie has a bachelors in wildlife biology and has done many field research projects!
Obi Wan - Vet truck dog in training
Obi Wan became a member of the CWE team in September of 2019. While initially unsure of his new role, he has stepped up to become a critical member of the practice. He specialized in navigating between calls and begging to be petted while at calls.
Levi - Official Vet Truck Dog - In Memoriam
Levi has been with Commonwealth Equine since its inception and is in charge of general morale and comic relief. He is excited to go to work every. single. day. There is nothing better that visiting with the clients of Commonwealth Equine!
