Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an art and science dating back centuries. It can be used as a stand-alone therapy or in combination with traditional treatment to achieve the best outcome possible. Dr. Ruemmler completed her acupuncture training through IVAS (the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society) in 2010.

An acupuncture appointment generally begins with a discussion about your horse and your goals. Then an "acupuncture exam" will be performed to isolate areas that need to be addressed. The affected areas may be "needled" directly or a combination of other points may be used to access these areas remotely through acupuncture meridians and master/traditional Chinese points. We use a combination of "dry needling" (inserting traditional acupuncture needles) and "aquapuncture" (injecting acupuncture points with a Vitamin B solution). Some horses will tolerate these procedures without sedation but some may need to be sedated for treatment to occur.  We generally recommend a series of three treatments spaced two to three weeks apart for new acupuncture patients and then a maintenance schedule of acupuncture can be discussed if needed.
